This is a paid freelance, remote position. If you’re an experienced writer with a finger on the pulse of the Comics world, CBR wants you to join its award-winning writing team! CBR is the oldest and most respected comic book culture website in the world. It is the internet’s first and final stop for nerd culture, news, commentary and community. Our editorial team is looking for writers to create fun, informative, and engaging Comic Book News that our discerning audience demands, with the eye-catching aesthetic they crave. CBR operates at a rapid pace and is seeking writers who can produce high-quality articles under time constraints. The selected candidate will have tremendous career growth and internal development opportunities within the organization. In your cover letter, make sure to tell us how your knowledge of the specific vertical you’re applying for will complement CBR’s coverage. Qualifications A passion for comic books, writing, and a drive to grow within the industry Broad working knowledge of Comics (including DC, Marvel, TMNT, Transformers, Power Rangers, GI Joe, Invincible, and Star Wars) Up to date with new comic releases and comic book news The ability to analyze content and pull directly from the source material to back up claims A sharp eye for grammatical details Excellent command of the English language Ability to write high-quality articles with swift turn-around times Comfortable working in an entirely virtual environment Should possess a general understanding of comics culture and strong research skills Responsibilities Write a minimum of 5 News stories per week in CBR’s house style (following the requisite training) Please note that News stories are a minimum of 450 words This will include fact-checking, formatting, linking, and image sourcing/very basic editing (sizing, brightness, etc.) Brainstorm, pitch, and develop original content ideas that’ll be published on-site Accept and apply any/all feedback received by the editorial team Communicate openly and actively with the editorial team What CBR has to offer Fully remote — write from wherever you’d like! Set your own schedule — write whenever you’d like to hit your weekly goal of 5 News stories! Opportunities to pitch and write your own original ideas Several helpful guides that you can refer to even after training to grow your writing portfolio and skills Incredible opportunities for career growth within a supportive system An amazing community of like-minded people to nerd-out with on a daily basis NOTE : Only applications containing a resume and cover letter will be considered.
