Summary The College of Engineering and Computer Science at the University of Michigan-Dearborn is seeking a visionary leader to serve as Chair of its Department of Computer and Information Science (CIS), with an expected starting date of January 1, 2025. The selected candidate will provide strategic direction to advance the goals and missions of the department. To lead this rapidly growing department, we are seeking an accomplished scholar, a passionate educator, and an entrepreneurial team player who qualifies for appointment as Professor with tenure within the department. The department has experienced significant growth in enrollment over the past 5 years, with over 730 undergraduate and 460 graduate students enrolled in Fall 2023. The Department offers ABET-accredited BS degrees in Computer and Information Science and Software Engineering, as well as two (not yet accredited) BS degrees in Cybersecurity and Information Assurance, and Data Science. The department also offers MS degrees in Computer and Information Science, Software Engineering, Artificial Intelligence, Cybersecurity and Information Assurance, and Data Science. The department Ph.D. in Computer and Information Science is offered through the University of Michigan Rackham School of Graduate Studies. The Department currently has 22 tenured or tenure-track faculty members (including 8 assistant professors), 2 full-time lecturers, as well as 13 part-time lecturers. Faculty research strengths include networking, security, data management, data science, artificial intelligence, and software engineering.The College of Engineering and Computer Science has adopted project-based learning as the hallmark of its educational program and has recently become a KEEN partner university committed to the integration of entrepreneurial-minded learning in its curricula. Required Qualifications* Applicants must have an earned doctorate in Computer Science or a closely related discipline with a distinguished record in research, teaching, and visibility consistent with appointment as professor with tenure at the University of Michigan-Dearborn. We seek candidates with demonstrated ability in obtaining funding for research activities and developing innovative curriculum. Applicants should possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, a strong record of administrative experience, and be able to foster collaborative and respectful environment. The successful candidate must continue the department trend of improved research and teaching in recent years, and be an advocate for students, faculty, and staff, and for the department, college, and campus visions.
